In order to fulfil any of our other objectives, we first need evidence that Martinha is alive and in which tank she resides at the CRAM-ECOMARE facility. You can help! Please use #WhereIsMartinha? (& see the other ACTIONS you can take).
Our main objective is to improve Martinha's welfare. In order to provide relevant advice about appropriate steps, we request full transparency regarding her current conditions.
We have requested, on numerous occasions, a full, independent medical and welfare assessment of Martinha. The outcome of that assessment would determine the next steps toward improving conditions for her.
We are aware of other cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) who have suffered fates similar to Martinha’s. We strive towards making sure that other rescued cetaceans don't suffer as she has, in this or any other EU facility or rescue centre.
See our section on OTHER SOULS to learn about other cetaceans who have been rescued by CRAM-Q and never been returned to the ocean.
We support the implementation of the proposed EU-wide 'MORGAN'S LAW'. This initiative is named after Morgan the orca, who like Martinha, was rescued. But now Morgan has to perform in shows, in a Spanish commercial zoo, to earn her keep. She has been bred and her calf can be traded anywhere in the world. Visit freemorgan.org to learn more about Morgan's story.
