When designing Martinha's logo we looked for elements that would represent her situation as we last knew it and the poor conditions in which she was held for years. We show Martinha's face, above the surface, as she had to look out of the barren tank for any stimulation.
The green colour represents the rampant algae growth and poor water quality of the tank. The small proportion of the 'green water' in the logo represents the extremely shallow depth of the tank (less than 2m, which is appalling for a species which is known to dive regularly to well over 50m)
The circle shape of the logo represents two aspects: the small confining tank that Martinha was held in for years, and a 'magnifying glass', which is often used to improve our ability to see something. The latter is important within the framework of our objective to have transparency regarding Martinha's whereabouts and well-being. We use this circle theme for most of the images on the website.
